VA MEDICAL CENTER HOSTS "WELCOME HOME" CELEBRATION FOR RETURNING COMBAT VETERANS OF SOUTHERN MARYLAND

VA MEDICAL CENTER HOSTS WELCOME HOME CELEBRATION FOR RETURNING COMBAT VETERANS OF SOUTHERN MARYLAND WASHINGTON, DC – The Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Washington, DC (DCVAMC) is sponsoring an outreach/information event for recently returned combat Veterans on Saturday, October 17 from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Sunday, October 18 from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. This "Welcome Home" Celebration will be held in conjunction with the St. Mary's County Oyster Festival, 42455 Fairgrounds Road in Leonardtown, Maryland. All Veterans are welcomed to attend.

The DCVAMC "Welcome Home" Celebration offers enrollment and eligibility services, health screenings, benefits advice and a wide variety of other services to military personnel and Veterans residing in the Southern Maryland area who recently served in Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF), Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF).

The helpful information and support provided during the event will assist combat Veterans and their families in their transition to civilian life. Staff will be on hand to offer benefits assistance, community and educational resources. This is an opportunity for OEF/OIF Veterans to get acquainted with VA health care. General information for all Veterans will also be available.

The Southern Maryland Welcome Home is a collaboration with one of the Eastern Seaboard's leading festivals, the Oyster Fest, offering good food, great entertainment and two nationally recognized contests, the National Oyster Cook-off and the U.S. National Oyster Shucking Contest.

This is the first year DCVAMC has hosted a Welcome Home Celebration at the St. Mary's Oyster Fest. Previous Welcome Home Celebration were held at the Medical Center and the Prince George's Stadium, in Bowie, MD.
