Tips From Our Clinical Dietitians for an Improve Lifestyle and Weight Control

Thanks to the Nutrition and Food Services Clinical dietitians at VA Washington DC, we have listed below a few things you need to keep in mind for improved lifestyle and weight control:

  • Studies show that about 7 of every 8 individuals who lose and keep weight off eat breakfast every day;
  • Eat at least 3 small balanced meals daily;
  • Eat slowly, take at least 20-30 minutes to eat your meal;
  • Drink at least 6-8 (eight ounce) glasses of water every day (drink throughout the day);
  • Take a walk before giving in to food craving which can make you eat too many calories;
  • Try to do 30-60 minutes of physical activity 3-5 days each week; and
  • Don't watch television while eating; get plenty of rest; try for at least 7 hours of sleep per day.
