AMVETS Honors two DC VAMC Employees
Two Washington DC Veterans Affairs Medical Center team members were recognized for their dedication and service to Veterans by AMVETS, Department of Washington, DC. The AMVETS 16th Annual Awards Banquet was held June 22, 2019 at the Ft. Myer Joint Base in Ft. Myer, Virginia.
Gloria Hairston, the Director of Public Affairs and Community Relations was honored with the AMVETS Special Award of the Year 2019 in recognition of “her dedication and extraordinary support of American Veterans”. Ms. Hairston has led an award-winning Public Affairs team since 2013 and is known as a passionate advocate for Veterans who works tirelessly to expand community partnerships and enhance care for Veterans.
Constance (Connie) Elliott was awarded the AMVETS Americanism Award 2019. Ms. Elliott, affectionately nicknamed “The Book Lady”, has been volunteering at the medical center for the past 24 years. Medical Center inpatients and residents of the Community Living Center have grown to love her and look forward to her frequent visits she makes with her book cart. Ms. Elliot is no stranger to accolades, she was recently recognized with the Lifetime Presidential Achievement Award for volunteering more than 4,000 hours.
The Annual AMVETS Awards honors those in the community whose unselfish commitments have made a profound difference in the lives of Veterans and their family members. Having medical center employees recognized as part of the AMVETS Awards Banquet exemplifies the medical center’s partnership with the community and veteran service organizations.
