All Vets Garden Group
A smiling Veteran works the soil of a raised bed of the All Vets Garden
Are you a Veteran interested in gardening? If you love being outdoors, don’t mind a little hard work and would like to take up a new hobby, then the Recreation Therapy’s “All Vets Garden Group” might be just the thing for you!
The group will start on Wednesday, April 11 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and then meet every Wednesday thereafter until harvest time around mid-November.
Please note: you must get a consult placed by your Primary Care clinic for Recreation Therapy-Garden Group in order to participate.
Please get the consult placed soon as the cut off for this season’s participants is April 30. This ensures Veterans get a good understanding of how to prepare the soil, plant the seeds, see the vegetables grow and do all the good and necessary hard work to harvest the delicious vegetables at harvest time.
Recreation Therapy will provide transportation from the Washington DC Veterans Affairs Medical Center to the Armed Forces Retirement Home where the VA has 17 garden beds and a plot of land to grow anything from tomatoes, cucumbers, collards, peppers, kale, eggplants, herbs, watermelon and more! You can also meet at the garden if you have your own transportation.
Please contact Recreation Therapy Supervisor, Jon Palks at 202-745-8000 Ext. 58324 if you have any questions.
