This month we are paying tribute to our many employees of Asian-Pacific American heritage. We are proud of our diverse work force and of the contributions of our colleagues of Asian and Pacific Islander descent.

Those of Asian and Pacific Island heritage have made immeasurable contributions to America. The vibrant culture includes over 40 nations. Within VA, there are more than 25,000 of our colleagues of Asian or Pacific Islander descent, and nearly 3,500 are Veterans themselves.

Dr. Ellen Kwon
Dr. Ellen Kwon is a Seoul, Korea native who has been in the United States for more than 35 years.

For the past 15 years, she has been a VA optometrist. She specializes in treating Veterans who've suffered traumatic brain injury (TBI).  "I'm the only optometrist in the medical center who sees TBI patients. I feel as though I’m helping them when other doctors can't.  It gives me satisfaction knowing I’m helping them as well as giving them answers to their questions."
