Cancer Survivors Day
Cancer Survivors Day provided an opportunity for cancer survivors to connect with others.
In spite of the dark clouds and intermittent rain, there was no dreariness at Cancer Survivors Day held June 5 at the Washington DC Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
About two hundred Veterans and their family members gathered under an event tent for the annual major outreach event created especially for cancer survivors. This year’s theme, It’s all about life, celebrated the fact that life with or after cancer can be inspiring.
Cancer Survivors Day is hosted by Nursing Service and Oncology Service and spearheaded by oncology nurse Theresa Pinto, RN. Voluntary Service and many community partners and volunteers helped make the day a success.
National Cancer Survivors Day brings communities across the globe together to: honor cancer survivors, bring attention to the ongoing challenges of cancer survivorship, and show the world that life after a cancer diagnosis can be fruitful and rewarding.
Cancer Survivors Day also celebrates the milestones cancer survivors have achieved, and acknowledges the family members, friends, and healthcare professionals who have supported them along the way.
