Aaron Reyes, DCVAMC Employee, Donates Hair to Locks of Love
After growing out his hair for almost two years, Aaron Reyes, a VA Facilities Management employee, nervously visited the DCVAMC barbershop June 22 for a very special haircut. The DCVAMC barber cut off Reyes' 11 1/2 inch ponytail for donation to Locks of Love, a non-profit organization which provides hairpieces to children of low income families in the U.S. and Canada.
When asked what prompted the hair donation, Aaron shared his story of having family members succumb to cancer and lose their hair. He is no stranger to this selfless generosity; this is his third donation to Locks of Love.
Locks of Love is a nationally recognized organization that has received quite a bit of attention from the media, appearing on shows such as 20/20, Jay Leno, Entertainment Tonight, Good Morning America, The View, and Oprah. In order to donate hair, donors must be able to contribute a minimum of ten inches.
