Occupational Therapists are an integral part of the DC VA Medical Center’s Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Team. Occupational Therapy (OT) involves the therapeutic use of everyday life activities to help Veterans engage in meaningful and purposeful occupations and roles in the home, workplace, community, and other settings. During the pandemic, Occupational Therapists are assisting Veterans who are hospitalized with COVID-19 to regain their endurance and restore their ability to perform daily activities. OT has also increased virtual care for outpatients including wheelchair seating evaluation, rehabilitation and education for specific medical conditions, evaluation of equipment needs for home, as well as virtual screening for other OT-related needs.
By using a customized approach to evaluations and interventions, Veterans are experiencing positive outcomes which allow them to live life to the fullest!
Thank you, OT Team, for moving forward through the pandemic by adapting VA services and care during the pandemic!
