Miracles Concert
The Miracles performed their 1970’s Motown-style show for Veterans July 2 at Warner Theater.
Red, white and blue beams lit D.C.’s Warner Theater stage, July 2, 2016, as The Miracles honored local Veterans, active-duty service members and their families during the free concert.
More than 1,900 ticket holders enjoyed the “Miracles for Heroes” show sponsored by an undisclosed donor with further support provided by the Elks, National Headquarters; The American Red Cross; Veteran Canteen Service and the Warrior Summit Coalition.
The high-energy show was presented by the Department of Veterans Affairs, Voluntary Service and the Washington DC Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Concert goers, including several residents from the medical center’s Community Living Center, had a great evening singing and dancing in the aisles to the classic sounds of 1970’s Motown.
The Armed Forces Honor Guard from Fort McNair Army Base presented the colors, opening the event that honored the men and women who currently serve and have served in the military. The National Anthem was preformed by Coniece Washington, a U.S. Army Veteran. Chas Henry, a news anchor with Westwood One Radio Network and himself a U.S. Marine Corps combat-decorated Veteran, served as host and emcee.
Sydney Justin, lead singer for The Miracles put it best: “The Miracles for Heroes concert is just one way to give back to the men and women Veterans and service members who protect our freedoms.”
The event also served as a major outreach event for the Department of Veterans Affairs. Prior to the concert, Veterans and their family members where able to learn about the many benefits and services available from Veterans Benefits Administration, Veterans Health Administration, National Cemetery Administration and the DC Army National Guard. The mobile Vet Center was on hand to offer mental health and other services.
This event was the ninth of ten concerts being held across the nation to pay tribute to the nation’s heroes.
