National Nurses Week

Nurses from the Washington DC Veterans Affairs Medical Center

Nurses from the Washington DC Veterans Affairs Medical Center

Tuesday, May 12, 2015

National Nurses Week, May 6-12, gave Veterans and staff members an opportunity to thank the more than 600 dedicated  nurses who provide quality care for DC area Veterans.

VA is the largest single employer of nurses, with more than 90,000 caring for Veterans across the nation.

National Nurses Week is devoted to highlighting the diverse ways in which registered nurses, who comprise the largest health care profession, are working to improve health care. This year’s American Nurses Association theme for National Nurses Week – “Ethical Practice, Quality Care” – embodies the professionalism of VA nursing.

Annually, National Nurses Week begins May 6, marked as RN Recognition Day, and ends on May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale, founder of nursing as a modern profession.
