Veterans Engagement Board to Host Public Forum
The Capitol Network Veterans Engagement Board is comprised of local Veteran-community leaders, spouses of Veterans and community stakeholders with the goal of improving connections between Veterans and those who provide services and resources to Veterans.
A public forum, hosted by the Capitol Network Veterans Engagement Board, will bring together local Veterans and their family members as well as community partners from Federal, state, local government, private and non-profit organizations to connect Veterans and their supporters with resources and obtain feedback and here concerns.
The forum will be held June 16, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Recreation Therapy, Room GC-120, at the Washington DC Veterans Affairs Medical Center. The forum is open to all Veterans, family members, caregivers, veteran service organizations and members of the public.
The event will provide the Veteran community with valuable information about benefits and services available to them in the D.C. area. The question and answer portion of the forum will offer an opportunity for feedback and recommendations and will open a dialogue to address community-specific concerns, resources and opportunities.
The newly-formed Capitol Network Veterans Engagement Board is one of several Community Veterans Engagement Boards which have formed across the nation as part of the Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary’s MyVA Communities initiative. The forming of the boards nation-wide brings together local resources to improve outcomes for Veterans.
The boards enable Veterans to: easily identify and reach available resources, voice their opinions and provide valuable input. The boards are inclusive, accessible, community-driven, flexible and integrated. Anthony J. Cancelosi, K.M., CEO of Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind, and Charles Eggleston, national hero and wounded Soldiers advocate, both serve as co-chairs of the local Capitol Network Veterans Engagement Board.
Local Veterans are encouraged to participate. A Choice Program overview will be offered and subject matter experts will be on-hand to address questions and concerns.
