Brian A. Hawkins Appointed Director VA Medical Center, Washington, DC

Washington, DC - Mr. Brian A. Hawkins has been named Medical Center Director of the Washington DC VA Medical Center (DCVAMC). As of September 25, 2011, Mr. Hawkins, who began his career with the Department of Veterans Affairs as a Clerk/Typist, will lead one of the largest and highly visible medical centers in the nation

DCVAMC has over 2,000 employees and over 80,000 Veterans enrolled for care. In addition to the main hospital, Mr. Hawkins will be responsible for a growing number of community based outpatient clinics, now located in Southeast, DC; Greenbelt, MD; Ft. Belvoir, VA; and Charlotte Hall, MD.

Mr. Hawkins has held many positions in his distinguished VA career. Most recently he was the Medical Center Director of the Jack C. Montgomery VA Medical Center in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Previously he served as the Associate Director and Chief Operating Officer of the VA Maryland Healthcare System, the Associate Director and Site Manager for the Perry Point VA Medical Center, the Business Office Director at the VA Tennessee Valley Healthcare System, Associate Chief Financial Officer at the Atlanta VA Medical Center and Senior Budget Analyst at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center in Chicago, Il. He began his career at Chicago’s Hines VA Medical Center.

Mr. Hawkins is enthusiastic about this new challenge. “My career has been dedicated to serving our country's Veterans. I am grateful to have the opportunity to work with the dedicated staff of the Washington DC VA Medical Center, providing quality care to Veterans of our nation’s capital. It’s a privilege and an honor.”

Mr. Hawkins holds a Bachelor of Liberal Arts and Sciences from Southern Illinois University and a Master of Health Administration from Governors State University. He is also a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, Senior Executives Association, the American Pilot and Aircraft Owners Association and currently is an Adjunct Professor at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, OK.
